It's coming together nicely Rick. Having had the chance to see it in person the other night, I can tell you guys that pictures don't do this scene justice. The variations in the terrain and the road which rolls with the hillside make a world of difference and give a natural look to everything. I especially like E.C. Crosby scene. It needs some detailing, but has a real good look to it!

Hi RIck,

Everything looks great and the pace of your work is amazing. Question - is the concrete bridge/abutment styrene or strathmore board? Also - what was your paint/weathering method on it? It really blends in well with the scenery.

Rick,
Lucknow is coming along nicely. EC Crosby is a good looking addition. Nice job with the colors.
The road looks a little shiny, though it may be just the photo.

Thanks for the comments, guys.....Jim, the concrete abutment is illustration/mat/strathmore/cardboard...whatever the correct term is. Curiously enough, I haven't painted it yet...that's the "stock" color pattern which in real life looks a little pink-ish. I had the same thought as you...it's a fair representation of aged concrete. Hmmmm....

Arnold....good eye; it just rained in Lucknow. No? OK, how this: that's the residue from the hair spray, which means a second coat on the road surfaces after all the scenery materials have been applied.

Rick,
I can believe the rain story...we've certainly had enough of it around here!

Looking good Rick! Sorry I couldn't make it yesterday. I was only able to get to Bob Price's BN layout and not any of the others either. Someday soon I hope!!

Nice bit of scenic detail Rick. This area is coming together very nicely. I especially like the layers of vegetation.

Rick,

Scene looks great. Really like the look up the hill toward the houses. Maybe you should quit the Fire Department and become a town planner.

Hi

I just hit on this thread last night.
(couldn't sleep, and then I didn't want to stop reading, go figure[:-weepn] )

This thread took my breath away: WOW! Awesome thread, awesome layout, fantastic naration.[:-thumbu][:-thumbu][:-thumbu]

Funny things is I just started to tinker with the layout lately and I have been thinking of making building out of foam-board and printed brick (your CD) Now I know it will work. Thank you.

I will print this thread and re-read it, and look at everything again. You did a a great job. Very inspiring.[:-bigeyes2]

M. Harsco I have a few cars (half-dozen) mostly cover hoppers ( and one gondola) that I have retired. I have enough covered hoppers at the moment and my focus is getting more power and pax rolling stock for now.

Anyways, if you are interested let me know. Keep up the great work.

M. Andy, same thing for you. If you want I could send half of it your way.

Hi, Rick --

I was driving out through the Mon Valley Sunday, on my way to New Eagle for the NMRA Division meeting. Used to be The Steel Valley - now mostly Rust. Anyhow...a truck crossed in front of me with the company name HARSCO on it. I wasn't quick enough to grab a camera but I'll see if I can find out more about it and try to get you a couple of pictures the next time I'm out that way.

Don..... you've discovered my dirty little secret: there really IS a Harsco, although not as I've chosen to depict it. Harrisburg Steel is a very old and reputable firm with roots way back to the Civil War when it started as Harrisburg Car Works building freight cars for the booming railroad industry. Over the decades they made wheels and axles as well as trolley track....eventually becoming a major manufactuer of seamless steel cylinders. Unfortunately they never built a complex like I have or manufactured the things I'm shipping out....yet another good example of "what if" modeling.....LOL. Today's Harsco is an international conglomerate in steel mill and railroad services as well as seamless steel cylinders.

Hi Syl,
That is very nice of you. What era are the cars appropriate for? My layout is set in 1956, Rick's HARSCO is set quite a bit later.

Best, Andy Keeney

Hi Rick,
Those scenes sure look nice. Love the switcher crossing the roadway! Everything is coming together so nicely. I also like the weathering that you have done along the mainline between the rails.
