Well, I reached another milestone tonight, all the track is laid and wiring done for the town of Mara.

Here is Lacroix Hardware getting it's first load.

I'd thought I'd put the yard in use and add a few cars.

The boys will be over on Friday night as I'll be hosting the first operation session on the railway, should be a lot of fun as it will be the first look at the railway for a few of the lads. |

I checked your Blog and I see what appear to be plastic "corners" used in your framing. Is that something you found at a big box store or some other place?
BTW like your layout.
Thanks

| Congrats Ron! Nice to finally see some trains running on your layout. Can't wait to put it to test this Friday with the other lads. |

| Your moving right along Ron! Looks really good. And your about to experience a big joy in layout construction - watching the railroad come to life for the first time with an operating session! Congratulations and enjoy!!! |

Thanks for the comments everyone, building this layout have been a fun and rewarding adventure. I planned the layout with operation in mind so we shall see how it does when put to the test. While only 1/2 of the layout is built we can operate between Mara and Clearwater. Its hard to believe that I only started this layout only 16 month ago and that it will be part of the NMRA's NFR region layout tour in April. [:-bigeyes]
As for posting photos of the operation session, I'll be sure to post some. Not sure if I'll post them to this thread or the Friday Night Group thread, or maybe I'll post to both threads as one can never take too many pictures.
Next on the plate is finishing the loop to allow for continuous running and get some scenery done before the convention. The last section of the railway to be built, Mosquito Flats will probably wait till after the convention. Also left to build is the trackage for the Okanagan Valley Lumber Company that will be built between Mara and Clearwater.
There you go, now you all know my short and long range plans.
Bill, you are right they are plastic corners that I used on my corners. They make squaring the sections a snap. I get them from a buddy of mine who is a home renovator. He found a source of these in the Toronto area and I believe he buys them a hundred at a time. Our local modular group uses them also when making modules. If you want more information on them let me know and I'll see what I can find out for you. |

I would like a brand name/part # to see if I can track them down here in Nevada.

Ron,
Congrats on completing another major task. I know it has to feel good, but when you have the others over it will make all worth while.

Mark,
The operating session was a success and everyone had a great time, at least thats what everyone told me.
There was a small glitch when I couldn't find the switch lists [:-bigeyes] but after a frantic search on my part, they turned up.
I was a bit nervous as the layout was planed for operation and I was hoping that it would live up to the billing in my mind. I have to make a few minor changes but I'm very pleased the way it went.
Pictures of the operation session was posted on the Friday Night Group Thread which can be found here. http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=14019 It starts near the bottom of page 36. |

Well I strayed today. I told myself that I would finish some buildings I have started in order to add some buildings and scenery to the layout before the NMRA convention in April. Another goal I want to accomplish before the convention is to complete the "loop" before the convention.
But first a little history. The layout is designed to be operated point to point. The loop will be used to break in locomotives and allow for continuous running when I show the layout off.
Completing the look means building the benchwork and track for Big Tank siding, which is naturally behind the hot water tank. seeing as this is "hidden" trackwork I'm going to use flextrack so it should go quick enough. Its a long weekend so the goal is to have it installed by Sunday Night.
The space is tight between the back wall and the furnace and hot water tank so I decided to build it first then install it when it is built.
The first think I had to do was make a template of the space as the track has to go between the hot water tank and a hot air duct. This was made out of 1/4" foam core. After a couple of modifications I was good to go.
One thing I notice with the template was that the drain line for the air conditioning was in the way and had to be relocated so I put on my plumbers hat and modified the drain line.
Here is a before shot of the drain line.

And an after shot of the relocated drain line.

Now that the drain line was relocated it was time to transfer the bock-up on the piece of 3/4" plywood that would be used as the subroadbed. I also laid out the track centerlines to make sure it was all going to fit.

Next up was to glue down the cork roadbed.

Tomorrow I will lay the track. |

| What people will go through to make a loop. Well done you as that is quite a modification in the name of model railroading. Lookin forward to going round and round on your super On30 layout for the next FNG visit. |
