Bruce, what fun is there in building a new layout if there are no "challenges".

Jim, there is nothing like a deadline to motivate someone (mainly me). Trouble is the convention date is sneaking up on me faster than I like.

Rather than waste the weekend I spent it building the next section of benchwork. There is only one more 4' x 2' section left to build but that will come only after the NFR convention that will be happening in 2 weeks time. [:-bigeyes] The section of benchwork I built is the last piece of benchwork weeded in order to complete the loop.

So without further ado, here are the construction pics.

As this section has to be removable in order to access the hot water tank first up was to make a couple of wall brackets to support the frame on to the wall.

Here is the framing done and test fitted into position.

Now the foam base is added and glued in place

The DCC bus wire installed

And finale the module installed in place.

Nice Ron. It really is coming along. That section looks like you can really do scenery as well. Maybe you can build some special O guage thingy to replace the light switch. maybe a water spout from a water tank. Just move it up and down.

Ron, its two weeks and FIVE DAYS! Don't rush things; I need every day, especially after losing the weekend. Nice to see that loop closing.

Ron
Do you mean that this relatively heavy looking piece of benchwork is simply held by these two small brackets?

Chris, your right about the light switch, now that the benchwork is built, the train cover has to go.

Sorry Jim, I'm not trying to rush it, I need every possible day too.

Frederic, Those are two really strong brackets. Seriously, there are also 2 legs on the front to hold it up and keep everything level.

At the garden centers here they sell cast fiberglass/foam "rocks" to cover up irrigation control piping -- they even have half rocks to go against the house. Add a rock over the switch -- kind of like Half Dome in Yosemite -- and get a remote control operated switch like for a ceiling fan -- but then you can't lose the remote! 8>))

I'm just getting caught up on this thread now. WOW...You've made tremendous progress. Nothing like a convention and an open house to get things done. Good for you Ron. It's looking great.

Checking in and I can see you are on the move in a big way. I had the same problem
with the water heater and water pump. Finally I just moved the water heater to a whole
other location. I made a mountain out of the water tank....smile. Keep up the good work.

Ron. If ya need a day of extra help let me know and we can work away. Sometimes a couple of folks can reenforce the days activities and more can get done.

Well I did manage to work on the layout tonight and managed to get the track laid that is required for the "loop"

Seeing as I was on a roll I made the "bridge" out of hardwood. As I was trying to figure out how I was going to get it to swing up I discovered that the ceiling was too low. [:-bigeyes] So, seeing as I wasn't going to be able to hinge one end of the bridge I decided that the whole bridge will lift in place when needed. This shouldn't cause to much problems as it will not be used for operating the layout. It soul purpose is to provide continuous running for the upcoming convention and when I want to break in engines (of if i get lazy and just want to watch a train run )

Here is a picture of the bridge temporary in place.
