For those interested in looking at prototype cars and appliances, this is a GREAT source of information. So far, there are 10 volumes covering everything from freight car trucks to modeling the GE 70 ton diesel. Also included are articles with photos on heavyweight passenger cars, express box cars, hoppers, small yard buildings, and reefers. I have all except volume 9 (on order). If anyone would like info from one of these, give me a shout. I highly recommend them for both historical and technical information. |
Take a look at my vintage railroad postcard collection at http://www.railroadpostcards.blogspot.com

Russ- What a coincidence-- I received my cyclopedia yesterday too! Except mine is the 1941 Model Railroader Cyclopedia, published in 1940 by Kalmbach.
It's loaded with hundreds of quality prototype plans of locos, rolling stock, structures,-- you name it.
There are a couple of pages concerning catenaries and overhead wires. If you'd like me to scan these for you, I will. There are also a lot of photos and plans of electric locos-- any requests?
For the rest of y'all, if you have specific questions or requests, I'd be glad to see what I can find. -Dave

P.S. One of the catenary drawing pages was done by Linn H. Westcott. There are a number of drawings and plans by Linn in the book. He was quite a multi-talented guy!
Question: Where did you get the cyclopedia? A/ Ebay. They come up for auction occasionally.
Was it expensive? A/ Surprisingly, no. You'd think such treasures would cost more. -Dave |
