Hi all
Just finished installing a Soundtraxx DSD-LL080LC Sound Decoder into a Proto Heritage 0-6-0 Switcher. This was my first attempt at a sound installation. I bought the decoder from Tonys Train Exchange and everything I needed showed up in two days. I spent little over two hours doing the installation and when I test ran the switcher; oh what a sweet sounding engine. I still need to adjust some CV levels but by taking my time and following the directions, it wasn't very hard at all. Toughest part of the installation; just getting enough nerve to start.

Peter,

I have that same Sound Decoder on order. I hope to get it this week.

Do you have any tips or advise concerning the installation?

Just take your time and it is a snap. The supplied Soundtraxx instructions are all you need and everything has been include in the kit. The only two tricky parts is: being careful when installing the front light resister ( don't for get to trim back the mounting tab) and making sure you get the speaker up into the coal load area, as far as possible. Mine was a tight fit when I put the shell on because of the speaker location. Next time out, i'll be a lot more careful. With a little bit of persuading, all went back together and the sound in so SWEET![:-bouncy] [:-bouncy]

I will be installing it into a 0-8-0. I think it will be basically the same install though.

Just take your time. It is a nice first time DCC sound project. The Soundtraxx DSD-LL080LC Sound Decoder was designed to be installed in the Proto 0-8-0 and not the 0-6-0, which is the engine I installed it in. I'm pretty sure they used the same tender. Just wait until you hear that sweet steam sound. Let me know how things work out, you'll do just fine.
