Hello all,

I'm trying to find what connectors the model train industry uses for their DCC boards? It seems that all of them use the same size. I have a few sound boards that have the male side, but i don't want to cut them off to solder the wires, I'd rather get the connectors. Any help on finding who i can get these from would be greatly appreciated!

Ok Mike, I knew I could find it. (with alot of help from my Son "LocoLouie")
The NMRA 8-pin connectors I use are cut from a long strip shown in my prior post.

ED9772-ND
http://parts.digikey.com/1/parts/327939-conn-recept-72pos-dual-row-lopro-803-93-072-10-002000.html

This comes in a long 2 row 'stick' with 72 positions. This gives you nine 8 pin headers. The way I cut them was to use a newer pair of Xuron cutters (the bigger ones used for rail) and they would 'snap' clean. Or, a good sharp razor saw will work.
I hope this answers your question.

Mike, When it comes to the 9 pin connectors used by Soundraxx here is the Digikey part number (green):

455-2296-ND
http://www.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?wt.z_header=search_go&lang=en&keywords=455-2296-nd&x=16&y=9&cur=USD

When it comes to the 9 pin connectors used by Digitraxx here is the Digikey part number (white):

455-2285-ND
http://www.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?wt.z_header=search_go&lang=en&keywords=455-2285-nd&x=0&y=0&cur=USD

The difference between the two (other than color) is the size wire they accept. The Soundtraxx ones accept 28AWG and the Digitraxx ones accept 30AWG.

If it is the NMRA 8-pin connector you ask about, I will go through my stuff to figure out what the part number is / was for the NMRA 8 pin plug I got from Digi-Key. It's been a while that I needed any more. And, they have millions of part numbers as you can see.
However, Traintec; http://www.traintekllc.com/NCE-Plug-Pack-NMRA-8-Pin-Connectors-10pcs/productinfo/NCE-PLUGPACK/ has them in ten packs just up the road a ways from me.

After reading this again I see you said there are male pins showing, then are you talking about the JST type connectors? Like picture posted?
If you could post a picture of what you are looking for, we can narrow this mystery down to a good answer.

If so, then the plugs / connectors in question are made by JST. They are considered their ‘ZR’ connector (http://www.jst-mfg.com/product/detail_e.php?series=290). They also have a PDF on this link to see their data sheet.

I get my elec. connectors, and most train elec supplies from http://www.digikey.com/
But you need to now if you want the JST 9 pin connector or the NMRA 8 pin connectors our buy them in strips and cut what you need.
The NMRA 8 pin works as a male or female connector.
You can also get an NMRA 8 pin kit.
