Posted - 05/11/2020 : 12:51:31 PM I have an old TK Models Erie RR. interlocking tower under construction. The shingles that came with the kit 38 years ago are just terrible. I can't keep them straight, nor will they stick.
Are there any quality HO scale shingles available and from whom?
Thanks!

Posted - 05/17/2020 : 9:31:24 PM I ended up using the BTS shingles and I'll never go back to the old style. They worked great! |

Posted - 05/11/2020 : 9:49:29 PM I made some for a building some moons ago using black poster board cut with pinking scissors. Looked good. Something thinner than poster board would be better, thinner, for a tower sized building.

Nice to remember back years ago when I used to finish projects[:-banghead]

Posted - 05/11/2020 : 3:41:19 PM I use Minuteman Scale Models slates (they have asphalt shingles, too.) I used to use the Northeastern Scale Models sheets, which I would special-order unassembled. The NESL pre-assembled sheets don't work anywhere near as well for me. Motrak and Nick & Nora also have slate and asphalt shingles.
Generally, I assemble using Transfer Tape. Then I weather them by first drybrushing downwards with dark colors, then upwards with white/off white (to pick up the edges), and finally, i'll stipple pastels/pigments to get some variation in coloring.

Posted - 05/11/2020 : 1:26:44 PM LOTS of choices. Wood, slate or 3-tab asphalt shingles? Rough or relatively smooth texture?
