For my next Railroad I want to replicate some of the activities of the Corps of Canadian Railway Troops in Europe 1918.

At the height of World War 1 the Corps of Canadian Railway Troops contained 19,000 personnel - 16,000 working in France and Belgium, with the remainder in England.

Canadian railway soldiers constructed all light railways in areas occupied by the five British Armies, and 60 % of the standard gauge lines connecting the channel ports to the front lines. In total, Canadians built 1169 miles of broad gauge railway line and miles of narrow gauge line during their wartime service. That is some serious Narrow Gauge railroad to model.

For some partial information you can go to this link:

I will be modeling using 1/43 and 1/48 in forced perspective. Track will be Code 70 set at 16.5 mm. It should be 14mm but I need to use available drive units from HO models. Therefore the closest fit is ON30.

I have been building a few models for the past 6 months. Now it is time to get serious.

Let the games begin.

Gee, I don't feel so bad about painting a few cows and chickens. 600 figures painted, WOW!! You must have an enormous amount of patience. Great job.

BigLars said, I think I have painted up in the 600 figure range between my 3 Railroads.

That's the thing I hate the most about this modeling thing. I said.

There is a nun, snake lady, French maid and soiled dove in the picture. They will be part distant futures scenes.

Thanks Rick and Frank. I have been holding up at the beach for some time now. I can only work on small projects so I brought well over 100 figures with me to paint.

The first 46 are off the assemble line.

I think I have painted up in the 600 figure range between my 3 Railroads.

That was a line that Backwoods Miniatures used for the kits that did not require you to be a master builder. They were still not exactly week end projects, they still require above average skills. Getting proper wood grain on the propeller, plus DCC and keep alive will be my ultimate goal on this model.

I'm still waiting on the Baldwin to arrive from Greece.
I have continued to scout the internet for stuff. I have always wanted one of these kits.
I'm going to claim that the Canadians used a downed Hun plan to create a fast inspection car for the line.

Also waiting on this critter to arrive.

Again a story of a one time field modification will be required.

The troops did build stuff as tests. Not everything was photographed or the photo's found. Pictures keep appearing every day. Like.
