A little local flavour on this Father's Day. This train is the Ottawa Central coming down from Hawksbury to Glen Robertson in Eastern Ontario on my friend, Bill Meek's layout.

A lovely Eastern Ontario farm scene near the same location. Happy Father's Day everyone! [:-apple] |

I've got this old thing....

One of those "pretty" multi-owner hoppers. CEFX over Koppel over Santa Fe.

The second is a heavily reworked Walthers Obs.

Posted - 06/17/2012 : 11:43:20 PM Phil you should be proud of Theo. Great looking build for a nine year old. You are very fortunate to have a son in the hobby with you. I am also fortunate to have my son Neil still with me. He is 41 and I am 71quote: Originally posted by rutlandfan
My nine year old son Theo has been working on his first car and it is now ready for the paint shop.
Starting with an undecorated Branchline AAR 1937 Yardmaster kit, we (I've helped with some of the sharp stuff or things requiring CA to attach) replaced the roofwalks with Kadee Apex ones, new brake wheel, modified the trucks and put Kadee brake beams in. Drilled and put the eyebolts in for coupler lift bars, replaced the end grab irons and installed #58 Kadees, drilling and tapping the coupler boxes and truck king pins for 2-56 screws.
The car is having the trucks and couplers removed tomorrow and hits the paint shop where Theo will use my airbrush to paint it box car brown. Lettering to follow afterwards and then back on the rails.
He's quite proud of his build so far, so is Dad!

Posted - 06/17/2012 : 9:37:07 PM Kevin. Yeah, she dropped a piston! Ya know these GP35's are basically junk but we were able to get several of them plus there's lots of parts available to keep them running. Can't pull worth a darn though. We use two most of the time in case one takes a dump while on a run. Our trains often aren't long enough to warrant two GP35's but two pull better than one. :o)

The San Ricardo branchline has lots to do at the yard.

Posted - 06/17/2012 : 6:26:25 PM A couple of weeks ago, I caught this set of L&IN GP35's sitting quietly at Logansport. The all gray unit was later moved out and replaced by an all maroon unit with a gray nose. Just another variation to the all maroon paint scheme.
