Hi guys,I have decided to update/upgrade the Z layout somewhat.IMHO Z is small but a 2' x 4' layout is still to small. The enclosed picture is strickly for me to study while deciding exactly what I want to do with the layout. So far I'm liking what I have started here, but I am giving myself till saturday to decide for sure. The new dimentions are 54" long with the end closest to the camera at 30" with the far end remaining (at least for now) 24".

They origonal end loop,on this end will be gone and one or two more industries added.Anyway here's the pic (please excuse the mess)and feel free to comment.

Oh yeah, somewhere on here is another thread detailing the origonal build.

Sort of the newest addition to the Z layout. Actually I have had both the truck and the decals for it for quite sometime.I just never seemed to have the truck ,the decals, and the time all together at once to finish the truck.Sunday last I finally did.

Thank you Mike,I concider your opinion as high praise for my little monster..

By the way we had our club open house yesterday second Saturday in a row where I met and talked to other Z scalers and want to be Z scalers.

Very nice Catt, one of the nicest Z scale layouts I've ever seen.

Ok, current state of affairs.Or how the layout looks now.

Cloud work is by my friend Michael Harris who will get a chance to repeat his performance when I extend the layout to 8'.The backdrop will also be 2"taller.

This layout is not going away. It's just getting to big to be hauling around. I've just decided I want something smaller so the new layout(s) will be 30" x 48".

New layouts = 1 N scale and 1 Z small enough I could take both to a show if I wanted.

The current layout will grow from it's present 5'8" long to an even 8'.which means Tyson's creek will get a fair bit longer.

Why are you going to retire it?
Catt Posted - 04/08/2013 : 10:25:13 AM
One more show to go (4-13-13) then this layout gets retired from show duty.

I've been working out plans for expansion that are different than the ones posted here.New plan is to just stretch layout to 8' length and maybe add another siding or two.

Try brake fluid for about 20 minutes or so.

Thanks Catt, I'll keep an eye out for it. I also melted an Nn3 boxcar into a pile of goo by soaking it overnight in nailpolish remover... Ah well...

I think it is a ScaleCote product called Wash away..What I remember is it is about $13.00 for 8 oz.bottle, and it is a green liquid.

Nice indeed! The layout looks great with the backdrop and well lit.

The GVR locomotive looks nice too. What did you strip the shell with? I recently tried scrubbing off the paint on my GP35 with nail polish remover, which didn't do much but make a mess.

Actually Mike I removed the tiger stripes because even with the GVR logos it still looked to much like a CPR loco. When my lazy self gets around to body mounting the couplers I may tiger stripe the pilots though.
Tyson Rayles Posted - 02/14/2013 : 2:38:33 PM
Nice! Have you thought about putting some white tiger stripes on the ends of the GVR loco?
Catt Posted - 02/14/2013 : 11:51:13 AM
More useless pics

First up the first official Z scale GVR loco,a GP38-3 rebuilt from a ex CP Rail GP35.

Next up the CSX local using trackage rights on the GVR toget there from here. The train is not moving as fast as it looks.

A going away shot of the CSX local

Thanks Jon,

It is definately nice having the layout set up all the time,a bit closer to home would be nice too,but you can't have everything right.

Here is a rather poor drawing of the layout with the future real estate added. The layout will still be showable as the addition is going to be removable for shows or used if I have enough real estate for it.

The size of the layout set up this way will be 6'8" X 7'6".
