Posted - 03/25/2009 : 2:09:11 PM Okay, '09 participants, this will be the thread we use to post pictures of our visiting cars.
In fact, why not start by posting a picture or two of your interchange car on its home road.[:-jump2] |

I finally got mine too, Simon. Great smiles on the boys.[:-thumbu]
Simon,
I agree with Bruce; great smiles on the boys, and the one on Dad isn't too shabby either! [:-thumbu]
Every once in awhile I have doubts about the future of this hobby. It's smiles like these that convince me that we're gonna be OK.
I'm on the road and hope to find the "original" in the mail stack when I get home....
Nice job, all!

Posted - 11/25/2009 : 9:42:12 PM So in order to close the loop. Now that it is officially in print, here is the photo that was used in the Digitrax advert published in the Dec 2009 issue of Railroad Model Craftsman. I finally got my copy today after is seemed that everyone else had theirs!

Bill, nhguy's Hew Haven box car in a starring role. The photo was taken at the huge K-10 Model Trains layout in Maryville Illinois. |

Well, actually the car was on home rails and got involved in this mishap at Bay Ridge, NY. It's back behind the box car in the photo. The hook is there to untangle the mess. I'm afraid the car was totaled and will be written off by the NH operating department.

OK, just kidding. Here is is on the northbound morning freight OA3 coming into Hartford Yard

Posted - 11/08/2009 : 3:00:33 PM Boy, am I glad that I can get off these pins and needles, they were beginning to hurt.Looks like Turtle and Preacher locked themselves in the car so no one could find them.
To all of you guys, I really enjoyed the stories and picks during the interchange time. I laughed my head off. Looking forward to next years. I hope that I have something done so as to participate then. |

Posted - 11/08/2009 : 09:56:44 AM "The boys are back in town" (Gary Moore, was and still is one of my favorite guitarists), peace has descended upon the railroads all across America. A wonderful recap of all the visiting trains by John. But stunningly, the local radio station we have on our alarm radio is already playing Christmas music 24/7. The year has simply vanished! |

Posted - 11/08/2009 : 09:52:30 AM John,
That is an elegant recap. I've really enjoyed seeing all of the Interchange cars roll through HH territory and still think you have some of the best scenery I've seen. Many thanks for the inspiration. [:-thumbu]

Posted - 11/08/2009 : 07:48:37 AM John, thanks for the terrific recap. I love the butterdish car. It is also nice to see a Devil's Gulch & Helengon car riding the rails again. |

Posted - 11/08/2009 : 12:05:13 AM Hey, guys! Dang, wasn't it cold this morning? Guess it won't be long before winter comes on. Yup, pretty much the end of my railfannin' for another year...speaking of which, I got a final batch of new photos. Wanna see?
Had a call early last week from Bernie Cropsey, a train dispatcher for the HHRR workin' outta Jacksboro. He knows I regularly go railfannin' and will usually let me know when somethin' special is goin' on. So he calls me and sez,"Hey John, you might wanta catch the mornin' hotshot next Tuesday. She's bringin' home a company car that's been off the property for nearly 8 months and earnin' per diem all that time! Accordin' to the sheet, it's traveled better than 6,000 miles without ever comin' back home."
So I'm up crack of dawn on Tuesday, make a thermos of coffee and I'm out the door camera in hand. Set myself up just below the crossing off route 22 in Putney just after the sun comes over the hill. That was another real cold mornin' and I had to hold on tight to my cup of hot coffee to keep my hands from freezin'. As I'm sittin' there waiting in the cold I got to thinkin' about some of the other trains I'd chased and rolling stock I'd seen here abouts in recent weeks.
There was that big grey Saybrook Northern reefer I photographed not a 100 yards from where I was standin' right now...
And there was that colorful New Haven State of Maine boxcar I caught up with out on the flats...
together with that CB&Q hopper I saw bein' spotted over at Walker's coal shed...
I remembered that elaborately painted Bellows Falls Co-op reefer I saw bein' set out over at the Bordens plant one mornin'...
My thoughts also went back to that other State of Maine car, the one off the Bangor & Aroostock, with the two trouble makers the law caught up with over at Slade's...
There was that brand new Crescent Valley covered hopper gettin' spotted over at Hoffa Cement...
and the Nashville Road car I chased down the long Boston Corners' spur...

Just about that time my reverie gets broken by the rumble and clatter of the Putney switcher movin' a gon over in the yard about a hundred yards off and almost simultaneously by a deep-throated whistle off to the north. Moments later the hotshot comes into view from out of the south portal of the Putney Tunnel.
She's comin' on fast and the consist looks particularly small this mornin' but right quick I spot the HHRR boxcar that's my traget, second in line.
She's abreast of me in a moment, rockin' and clatterin' as she goes by and I have just enough time to get this nice 3/4 shot of her rollin' past.
Yup, that was fun. I'll have to check in with Bernie and see if I can get him to let me in on exactly how much that per diem figure came out to be.
Oh yeah, there is this one last picture, the one of the reefer that was just ahead of the caboose. Almost forgot to show ya. A real oddball car.
Certainly an old timer by the looks of it and with this real odd roadname - Devil's Gulch & Helengon. Seems to me I've heard of that name somewhere before, maybe a long time ago. Sorta recall it was associated with another outfit that had a decidedly peculiar name too...Gorre somethin' or other. Oh well, maybe eventually it'll come to me. See ya guys later!

Nicely done! [:-thumbu]
I'm glad to see that someone finally caught up to these guys. I can rest more easily now, so I think it's finally time for a nap! Let us know if they get out of the slam! [:-eyebrows]

Dave [:-banghead]
I'll rattle the cages in January, after the holidays. I'll post the announcements in the Crew Lounge and here in the Interchange Tracks. If I don't hear from you I'll send a 'wake up' PM. |
